Director of Children and Youth Ministries

Clinton Presbyterian Church, Clinton New Jersey (Hunterdon County)

Clinton Presbyterian Church (CPC) is a vibrant, growing congregation (300+ members) in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and our fastest growing demographic is families with children! We celebrate this and are looking for an enthusiastic and creative leader who can guide as we seek to grow in faith and service together.

Position Overview

Part-Time | 20 hours/week

Sunday mornings

1-2 Sunday evenings and 1-2 weekday evenings per month required.

Target start date: September 2026

Reports to Pastor/Head of Staff

Strengthen and lead core ministries
Provide leadership for key programs, including:

  • Sunday School (September–May)

  • Youth Group (Middle & High School)

  • Confirmation (every other year)

Support and collaborate with volunteers in other important areas of ministry, including:

  • Vacation Bible School (VBS)

  • Nursery care

  • Seasonal family events and intergenerational activities

  • Discern and shape future direction 

    Working together with ministry teams and volunteers, you’ll help assess what’s working well and where there is room to grow to guide the next chapter of children and youth ministry at CPC

  • Connect children and youth to worship
    Coordinate meaningful opportunities for children and youth to participate in worship throughout the year, including Children’s Sunday, Youth Sunday, and the annual Christmas pageant.

  • Build and encourage a strong volunteer team

    Recruit, equip, and support volunteers—helping people discover their gifts and lead with confidence. 

  • Be a visible and engaged leader in congregational life
    Share in worship leadership on Sunday mornings (including children’s conversations) and participate in fellowship and community events

  • Communicate with clarity and care
    Communicate with families, share ministry news with the wider congregation frequently and actively advertise and promote CPC activities in the community

What Success Looks Like (2–3 Years)

  • Programs that feel meaningful, and are well-supported by volunteers

  • Growing participation from both church families and the wider community

  • Stronger connections between church and home as spaces of faith formation

  • More families finding a sense of belonging and calling CPC “home”

Core Qualifications

  • A deep Christian faith, grounded in God’s inclusive love and grace, with a desire to share that faith in authentic and engaging ways

  • A natural ability to connect with children, youth, and their families

  • Strong communication skills (spoken, written, and digital)

  • Organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to empower others through delegation

  • Comfort leading and presenting in both small and large group settings

Experience & Background 

  • Experience in children’s and/or youth ministry (church or related setting)

  • College degree or background in ministry, education, counseling, social work, or a related field a plus

Additional Details

  • Background check  required prior to hire. 

  •  Safe training required within 30 days of employment 

  • Salary: $23,000–$27,000 (commensurate with experience) 

  • Work location: primarily on site. Some flexibility for limited remote hours

The rhythm of this position follows the natural seasons of church life. Some times of year (such as fall kickoff, Advent/Christmas) will be more active, while other seasons allow for a lighter pace. We value flexibility, open communication, and shared clarity around priorities so that this work remains both meaningful and sustainable.
